Are her arms a bit thin? I don't know that it really bothers me that much though, didn't notice until I started looking for stuff to make suggestions about. I like the expressions on her and the annoyed pet thingy. She just told me she wants a background. She says all your girls are sad because they have nowhere to live except a floating void. You should draw some trees and stuff and fill them with little creepy crawlies and whatnot. Yes yes.
Totally...this is one of the best I've seen so far. I love that you've joined the two worlds of your new girlies and the squidy creatures. Seems like a good basis for some background environment work. Arms might be a bit thin, but I think it works out for the extreme proportions she has anyways. Good call, michelle... and good stuf sir evan.
Your drawings get better every time you post something! :) I love all the flowiness you got in her hair and little strings (?) coming off her clothes. And awesome sense of weight with that pull! KEEP ON DRAWIN' BRO!!
Michelle: Thanks again. You are always so prompt with your comments. But, the idea of backgrounds scares poor Evan. i'm not too sure i'm ready for that sort of commitment. Perhaps if i got some guest backgrounds done by a professional... *Cough* Cough*Wes: Thank you. Best so far?? why i might just have to agree with you on that. I've been wanting to combine the worlds of the squigglys and the Jungle girls for a while now, but i think this might be the first official pairing of the 2 worlds. and, i have to say, i think they go quite well together. I plan to put a tad more detail in the little creature before ink, and i might make some minor tweaks to the girl, too. who can say, really?Lauren: Thanks to you, too, bro. i guess they're strings. maybe i thought they were really really thin feathers, or something super whispy decoration that her and her tribe use for.... whatever. And, i'm actually surprised how well the weight comes off in this. thanks for noticing! And, don't forget how bored i am. Perhaps we can hang out one day and do something other than sit in your house and watch the dogs...
All this talk about marrying the creepy crawlies and scantily clad ladies has me nodding slowly, in a sage-like manner of course. Ever read any Thrudd the Barbarian comics? Good stuff.I like the sense of action going on. If I were to be critical I'd say that the arms are indeed a bit short and skinny, but I hadn't noticed until she brought it up. I do like the improvement in the way you handle facial structure. I think previously the eyes were so large they overpowered everything, not so much now.
Thanks, ol' Shobby. I've never heard of Thrudd the Barbarian. Maybe i'll check them out. ok, now i need to revisit the arms. I was happy with them at first, but now i'll look at them again. But, i'm very pleased in how the face turned out in this one. I'm starting to get the balance of big eyes to face right. That, and i'm really starting to understand how i do face construction. Things are coming together quite well.and this is all thanks to the Burbank Animation Academy!
I owe my commenting promptness to being unemployed and in my apartment all day. And of course the desire to see Evan drawrins :) Don't be scared of backgrounds! Since you are finishing it in the computer anyway, you can always delete it if you dont like it. Don't be intimidated thinking you'd have to render every leaf on every tree or something, you can make it really design-y and abstract. Figure out some flat pattern that suggests "forest", I think you could do it well if you tried. I really feel environments are crucial to taking your pictures to the next level. Just experiment a lot and see what you like!As for the arms, I think it may be one of those situations where physical logic says one thing and the internal logic of the picture says another. It might be best to leave them be.
Everyone else's comments are so rich with wonderful feedback. I'll just say that I am throughly impressed and hope that you post more soon. .
Thank you, Brian. I'm thinking of trying to average at least 1 post a week. OOP! I just realized i have barely worked on anything since posting this!
